Hi I'm William<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I was born in Bethesda Naval\nHospital (now Walter Reed Military Medical Center) to a Navy lawyer and a\nhousewife. I grew up shuttling between New York and Washington, D.C., the third\nof seven children. I have two older sisters as well as two younger sisters and\ntwo younger brothers, not necessarily in that order. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

I graduated from West Springfield\nHigh School in Fairfax County, VA. Two weeks later I was in Navy boot camp at\nthe Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Michigan. I became a radioman and\nserved in Morocco and aboard the USS Waccamaw. When I got separated, I went to\nthe University of Missouri-Columbia. I declared journalism as my major because\nI had to declare something for the GI bill. I found I enjoyed it and spent 41\nyears first reporting and then editing at small and medium-sized newspapers.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

When Amy and I married I discovered\nwhat love, friendship and partnership really meant. She\u2019s also why I\u2019m writing\nbooks. She retired five years before I did and decided to pursue her long-term\ngoal of writing histories about children who survived the Holocaust. Being an\nEnglish and reading teacher, she wanted someone with more writing experience to\nwork with her. First, she tried to recruit our daughter, Jyssica, who is a writer\nand editor in her own right. Jyssica turned her down, despite repeated tries, pointing\nout it was not the kind of writing she did and that she had to make a living\nand this would be a long-term project.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Then I retired. Jyssica pointed out\nto her mother that I not only was a writer of the kind she needed but that both\nof us were students of the Holocaust.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

So I got drafted. Amy recruited the\n10 survivors and we interviewed them and wrote the book, Holocaust\u2019s Child<\/u>,\nwhich Jyssica edited.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Now, you may ask, why did I use\n\u201cW.R.\u201d instead of \u201cWilliam\u201d? I\u2019m glad you asked. It was mostly a matter of\nspace. William took up too much room so our names would have had to be really\nsmall, something we did not want. And when I started writing novels, I just\nkept it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

I am not a genre writer. In\naddition to the non-fiction work, I have written a dystopian trilogy, a romance\nand three adventure\/romances. The common theme which ties them together is an\nexamination of the human condition: What makes people do what they do?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Amy and Jyssica are now my editors\nand sternest critics. Both have made invaluable contributions which made my\nbooks much better.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
